CLIENT PROFILE - Meet Kelly!

We had the pleasure of interviewing our long-time client Kelly Tall in the past couple of weeks. Kelly has been coming to Scout since the lockdown times, and she shared all about her Pilates journey - from where she started even before Scout as a complete beginner, to where she is now attending all different styles of classes. Finally, she emphasises on how Pilates is a great practice to support her mental and physical health.

Hi Kelly, how long have you been coming to Scout? I was actually trying to work this out. It was between lockdowns, so it was that 2021.

Have you trained Pilates somewhere else before that? Yes, I actually started at Elixir. It was a really different vibe to here at Scout. It was where all the Sydney Dance Company people went, and it was, and so lots of dancers and they all had like very, very long legs. So, yeah. It can be quite intimidating to start.

What's your favourite class at Scout? I like a really good essentials class, because there's lots of options and it's not like just a chill out class. There's always ways to stretch yourself. And I love it how every instructor is different. So everyone has different playlists and styles and things like that. So it always feels different!

And what has made you try new classes out of your comfort zone? So I think it was actually Elle one day who said “Have you tried an Elevate class? You should try one!” And I was like, “Oh my God, no, are you sure?” You So I did an Elevate with Vee, and she always asks “Is anyone new to Elevate?” to ease us into the chaos (laughs). So it was great! And it's not like you get a teacher that ever says “This is elevate. You should be doing this level!”, all the teachers are very supportive.

Do you think you're getting stronger with trying different classes? Definitely! I think everyone should be mixing up!

Do you find that you found a lot of friends and a community at Scout? I do, I have a few friends that come here too, which is really nice. And everyone is really welcoming and it's not, it's not a snooty kind of studio. Everyone is very chill.

What's your favorite thing about Scout? Definitely the variety. I'm 53 now, so I will have to start doing more stuff like for my bone density and things like that. But I feel like I can kind of do it all here at Scout. I can get my heart rate up by doing Circuit or Jump, or I can do a Strength class - which I need to do a lot more for my bone density at the moment. So I think there's no reason to leave!

Finally, what advice would you give to somebody who is just starting up at Scout? Do as many different classes as you can! And I think just try different classes and also try the hard springs! Only because one of my big aims over the last 12 months was to really build strength in my shoulders and my arms, and the only way that I was going to do that was by going on the hard springs. So, trust me just give it a go! Get out of the comfort zone. And then after a while, it's not that it’s easier but it feels much more doable. So I think Scout is safe place to challenge yourself and try the harder things!
