In this month’s Community Highlight, we had the absolute pleasure to have a chat with Vanessa Megan from Vanessa Megan Skincare, which HQ is neighbouring our Marrickville studio! She has founded a very insipiring Organic Skin Care brand back in 2009 to help women and men gain confidence in their skin, while sourcing only the best ingredients for her formulations. Hi Vanessa, can you share a little bit of your background and what brought you to your passion for skincare and selfcare?

Growing up on a farm in rural WA, I wanted to be a nurse as a kid. My career took a different path and then led me to become a clinical hypnotherapist in my 30’s. I have always had a passion to help people and help to build confidence. My story below brought me to find skincare and my passion in helping people feel their most confident in their skin is what sustains my passion.

Can you tell us more about the story of the brand, what inspired you to create it and what makes it different from other skincare brands?

In 2001 my best friend said to me “You should never put anything on your skin that you couldn’t eat’ This resonated with me so deeply. I went out the next day to look for skincare good enough to eat. Back then there was nothing. Like all good farm girls, if you can't find it - Make it... this began my formulating journey and I went down the biochemistry rabbit hole for the next 7 years, discovering what ingredients were best for the skin and for different skin problems and how they could be formulated together. In 2009 Vanessa Megan was born as a solution and education to women and men about what they are putting on their skin.

What does a typical weekday (or week) look like for you at work?

I love that my week is always totally different.

I have scheduled meetings that stay the same, however I will move from production in my lab to the office, warehouse and marketing during the week.

What do you most love about your job?

I love formulating new products :)

What would you recommend to someone looking to get started with a skincare daily ritual?

If you have a good cleanser and a good moisturiser you can’t go wrong.

What are your personal favourite products or must-have from your range?

“The Holy Trinity Kit", it has an organic Cleanser, Toner and Face Oil. It's my favourite – so simple but very effective.

Any exciting projects coming up for Vanessa Megan this year?

We have just launched our Hair Care range which took out the Gold Awards at the Annual Organic Awards, we are all very excited about this!

When you’re not working, what are you up to / how do you like to spend your free time?

I adore yoga and haven’t been able to practice in the last few years, it is my stress release and I am beyond thrilled to now have the opportunity to come to Scout as it is so close to work! So needless to say, yoga is definitely how I like to spend my free time when I am not hanging out with my family! :)
