SCOUT INSTRUCTOR SERIES - Meet Charlotte!
CHARLOTTE SCHUBERT
Age: 37
Star sign: Libra
How long have you been teaching Pilates? I've been a Pilates teacher now for two and a half years and I've been teaching at Scouts I've been a Pilates teacher now for two and a half years and I've been teaching at Scout for 14 of those months.
What is your favourite class to teach at Scout? That's really hard to answer. I really enjoy the beginners class, introducing people to the reformer, but I love the community we've built at our pre and postnatal mat classes. And when it comes to Elevate and Essentials, watching people move up those levels, get strong enough to move up, so that's why I like teaching Elevate. But it's really hard to say! (laughs)
What is your favourite Pilates position? My favourite exercises actually are mat exercises. It’s Rolling like a ball and Seal, because they're a bit silly, or they feel silly. Once you get people in them and moving and they see how effective they are and how much you use your core, and you really see people's like faces light up! So that’s why I love those two!
What's your favourite thing about teaching? My favorite thing about teaching is watching people progress. And I don't just mean like progress in their Pilates skills. I mean the progressions that it can bring into their lives. People tell you all about how it's changed their life. It's given them confidence. They're more relaxed after their class. And that's I think that's the magic part of it all.
What do you like to do when you’re not teaching? I think if you spend any time in my classes you know that I'm a bit of a nature girly. Being outside is really important to me. I do lots of walking and hiking. And… I'm a big fan of trains! (laughs) As I prick my nose at going on a little train ride. And reading. I'm a massive reader! I cannot recommend Medieval Tavern Ambient playlist enough. It will really bring your next reading journey alive!
Tell us your favourite place to eat in the inner west and what you order there? Cairo. It will always be Cairo. But I did have a B&E roll from Soulmates recently that I’ve been thinking about for two weeks. Herbed mayo. HERBED MAYO.
What advice would you give to your 15-year-old self? You are right. Middle management is lame and bureaucracy is worse. Keep doing what you want.
Any read or watch recommendations? Well, I'm deep in a Game of Thrones watch and read, through in a way that can only be described as deeply autistic. I'm reading the book, then I'll watch the complimentary episode, and then I will listen to a podcast talking about the complimentary episode. So there's nothing in Game of Thrones that I am not covering. If you've got a recommendation of what to read after Game of Thrones, I will need it deeply because my mental health is gonna plummet.
If you could travel ANYWHERE tomorrow, where would you go? I’d go on the Tran Siberian railroad with my best friend Emma Louise. No better person exists on this planet.
What goal are you hoping to achieve in 2024? An international Pilates residency! I want to teach on the other side of the world.
What advice would you give to someone who is just starting Pilates? My advice to anyone starting Pilates is be nice to yourself! Don’t compare yourself to anyone else in the room because they’ve been practicing for hours and hours while you’ve only been here two minutes. So simply be nice, and keep showing. Consistency is going to get you there!
