In this month’s Community Highlight we had a conversation with Jarrah, one of our long time SCOUT member, who recently left her corporate job as a Fashion Designer to pursue her true passion - supporting couples in organising one of the most important day of their life by becoming a full-time Wedding Celebrant through Hitched with Jazz. Read more about Jarrah’s journey below!

Hi Jarrah, can you share a little bit of your background and what brought you to your passion for wedding celebrations?

I've actually worked as a Fashion Designer for the past 12 years and was feeling fatigued from the stress and pressure of the industry. I was looking for a new outlet for my creativity that also allowed me to connect with like-minded humans. I was drawn to the energy of the Inner West and felt I could create stress-free, fun and beautiful wedding ceremonies with local vendors and couples.

Can you tell us more about Hitched with Jazz, what you offer and what makes it unique?

Hitched With Jazz is a celebrant service specialising in stress-free, laid-back but always romance-filled ceremonies. I have a particular love of elopements and have married couples in parks, beaches and breweries. The sky is the limit with eloping!

We are currently building more packages with local vendors to make the planning experience easier too!

What does a typical week look like for you, managing your own business?

During the week I am setting up intro calls with new couples, filing marriages, managing social media and emails. And (usually) Saturday is the big day where I spend time prepping all of my equipment, final checks on paperwork, hair & makeup before heading to the venue to touch base with the other vendors and sound-check before the best part of my job, the ceremony! I always leave buzzing from the energy. No matter the size of the ceremony or the number of guests there is always an incredible energy that radiates love and joy!

What do you most love about what you do?

The feeling of marrying two humans so in love is truly an honour and I still can't believe I get to be such an important part of people's big day!

What would you recommend people look for or check when looking for their perfect wedding celebrant?

Have a coffee with them and get a feel for their style. You are inviting them into one of the most important moments of your life so you need to have a level of comfort and connection.

Can you share one of your best memories as a wedding celebrant?

All of my ceremonies are such special memories for me but marrying two of my close friends at their incredible wedding in Byron Bay was a particular honour and moment that I cherish.

Any exciting projects coming up for Hitched with Jazz this year or next?

I am currently re-building my packages with some new vendors so I can bring full-service elopements to couples looking for a totally stress-free, seamless planning process for elopements.

When you’re not working, what are you up to / how do you like to spend your free time?

If I'm not at Scout I am probably walking my dog Rhonda, shopping at some local markets or visiting a local gallery.
