Five amazing benefits of a barre workout

Are you curious about what a Barre class is all about, but never dared to take the step to try it out because you wouldn’t define yourself as the most gracious ballet dancer? Good news, you don’t need any sort of ballet training to join a Barre class! Our in-house Barre instructor Julieanne refers to Barre as a combination workout of the lively, uplifting music of dance, the strength and stability of Pilates, and just a sample of ballet's delicate + precise movements. Barre exercises challenge anybody wishing to tone their muscles with high repetition and low-impact motions and is accessible to everyone!

Five things you need to know about Barre & its main benefits on your body and mind:

Improves posture

We may not take ourselves as seriously as in a ballet class, but we’re still pretty serious about good posture! During a Barre practice, there is a lot of emphasis on building up the muscles in the shoulders and chest, which keeps us from slouching (like most of us tend to do when sitting at a desk!). You will notice that you are intuitively standing taller and that your body feels longer after just a few sessions!

Increases overall strength

There's more to Barre than just a peachy bum, even though it might come as a side effect we won’t complain about! But more importantly, strengthening your glutes will help all the muscles that support your pelvis. Ultimately, this relieves pressure on the knees, hips, and back. With Barre, we target your lower body, but we'll also tone your arms, shoulders, and upper back. You can also expect planks, push-ups, bicep curls, and balance drills!

Enhances Balance & Flexibility

The balance-focused nature of barre helps improve your coordination and stability, which can be beneficial for overall functional movement and injury prevention.

Low Impact workout

Barre is gentle on the joints, making it a suitable option for people with joint concerns or those recovering from injury while still providing a rigorous workout.

Great for the core

Your core is a crucial component of the workout since barre places a strong emphasis on balance and strength. Barre lessons will give you a focused core workout, which is ideal for maintaining toned abdominals. This may be especially beneficial for postpartum women trying to recover. Ultimately, your body will be able to develop core strength more quickly.

Increases flexibility

In barre workouts, flexibility is the main emphasis. At the barre, a number of the exercises you do are aimed at increasing flexibility. In general, Barre classes promote a safe increase in joint flexibility and range of motion.

Improves mental stamina

Exercise has many benefits for mental health in addition to physical health. Participating in regular Barre classes will make you feel not only physically stronger but also mentally stronger as well. If you're trying to reduce worry and stress before a long workday and moving your body to the beats of the music is your thing, barre is a fantastic option!

Community & Motivation

Many people find the supportive community aspect of barre classes motivating and enjoyable, contributing to consistency and overall mental well-being.

Barre is adaptable to ALL fitness levels and can be modified to suit beginners and advanced practitioners. And it features a dynamic mix of exercises and music, making the workout enjoyable and less monotonous than traditional gym routines.

So what are you waiting for? Let's meet at the Barre, see you there!
