SCOUT INSTRUCTOR SERIES - Meet Fiorella

How long have you been teaching Pilates?

I started teaching in 2020, and I have been teaching at Scout for over a year!

What is your favourite class to teach at Scout?

My favourite class to teach at Scout is definitely Barre Burn! It was the first class I started teaching in the studio, and I think it always delivers a great workout, and great energy!

What can students expect from your classes?

So in my class I love to play with tempo. I'm a big fan of switching things up, slowing them down, speeding them up and just giving you a lot of variety throughout the class. I'm also a firm believer that everybody can do Pilates and every class should feel inclusive and accessible which is why it's so wonderful to work at a place like Scout.

I also do think that challenge can come through layers so if you come to a class of mine I'll definitely put you through the pieces, make sure that you find the layer that feels good and perhaps even take you a little step further than what you might think!

What are your favourite Pilates and Barre exercises?

My favourite Pilates exercise is definitely pretzel. It's this wonderful, mermaid-like position but then it's got these crazy like glute layers at the back and it's super hard and I remember thinking when I started Pilates that it was my Everest goal. I thought I was never going to be able to do a pretzel, or teach a pretzel, or demonstrate a pretzel! It's such an effective exercie and it's really a demonstration of the elegance and the persistence that you can get through a Pilates practice.

For barre it's definitely arabesque, arabesque all day long!

What in life gives you the most energy?

When I'm not teaching, I'm usually at home with my beautiful baby boy. He's 6 months old. And another kind of energy activity that doesn't have anything to do with Pilates for me is swimming. I really, really got into swimming when I was pregnant and I found that it was a really nourishing exercise. And also a very sensory experience for me - the cool water is so relaxing when you're like heavily pregnant and floating, and it was really lovely to kind of immerse myself in. And so I realised it's actually a really beautiful practice for kind of low intensity exercise! So yes, the rhythm of having some good laps at the pool, you can't beat it!
