SCOUT INSTRUCTOR SERIES - Meet Nathalie Murray

How long have you been teaching?

I've been teaching yoga since 2018 and teaching here at SCOUT since the end of 2023 and then I finished my reformer training last March so I've only been teaching Reformer less than 12 months!

What is your favourite class to teach at Scout?

My favourite class to teach at Scout is definitely yin. I feel like that's a bit of a cop-out because yin is one of the ones that probably as a teacher it seems like you give the least to. But I'm very passionate about rest and about holding your body quietly for a long time and having to be in your mind. I think it's a scary and fun place to be.

What can students expect from your classes?

Well, I'm teaching mostly Reformer these days - and I am obsessed with alignment and technique, but within that I like to have an offering of either taking it down a notch, or making it a little harder with a little kindness dripped into there as well!

What are your favourite Pilates and Yoga poses?

My favourite Pilates exercise on the reformer has always been short spine. It's just so juicy and yummy for the spine. And in yoga at the moment, it’s Visvamistrasana, which is a side plank variation where you get this beautiful side extension. And it's delicious. You can modify it, make it easier, you can make it harder. So it's normally accessible for most people!

What in life gives you the most energy?

At the moment I go to the Icebergs most days, alternating with the sauna and some cold water dips, or depending how cold the water is in the pool. And that's probably my most energising thing every day, is the hot and the cold. I just adore it!
