SCOUT PROFILE SERIES - Meet Mae!
MAE VILLEGAS
Age: 33
Star sign: Aries
Tell us about your day job: I work in marketing as an Insights Manager at a university.
Favourite thing to do when you’re not doing your day job? Going to a yoga class and chilling with my rabbit, Ari.
How long have you been coming to Scout Pilates? For 2 years. I initially joined for reformer classes, and last year I decided to become a member to include yoga into my routine.
What keeps you coming back? The teachers and their amazing classes, and the community vibe. Scout has also been a safe space for me. Last year I was diagnosed with a heart condition and as a result had lost confidence in my body and was feeling quite lost in general. Coming to Scout played a huge role in adjusting, regaining confidence in my body and feeling happy again.
Favourite class and why? I love all my regular classes, I can’t pick one because they each offer something different. A few of them are:
-Diana’s yoga classes: I love how dynamic, strong and explorative her classes are, and her sequences are fun and playful.
-Camille’s yoga classes: A gentle but strong class. Camille’s classes are the perfect way to wrap up my work day.
-For reformer classes I love April and Alison’s classes.
Favourite yoga pose? It changes, but more recently compass has been my favourite yoga pose. I love the feeling of being twisted and open at the same time.
Enough yoga chat, what in your life gives you the most energy? Yoga, meditation, blue skies, family and friends, and bread.
Tell us your favourite place to eat or drink in the Inner West and what you order when you’re there? Bella Brutta, and my go to is the Cavolo Nero Pizza. I’d eat it everyday if I could.
What advice would you give to your 15-year-old self? Research and rethink fast fashion.
If you could travel ANYWHERE tomorrow where would you go? I haven’t done enough research, but I would love to go to an ethical safari.
What goal do you want to achieve in 2024? I’ve decided to study part-time while working full-time. The goal is to fit uni into my life, without feeling too much additional pressure and still be able to make time for myself. Also, I’m not sure if this is for this year, but at some stage, I’d love to do a yoga teacher training to learn more about yoga.
