SCOUT INSTRUCTOR SERIES - Meet Liz
LIZ MARCOBELLO
Age: 33
Star sign: Scorpio
How long have you been teaching Pilates? 6 years for barre, 5 for Pilates.
How did you first get into Pilates? It was always part of my ballet classes as a young dancer. And became a class that I looked forward to when I went into full-time dance; almost medicinal in a way because I felt it set me up for success when rehearsals became more intensive. My mum also completed her diploma of Pilates when I was a teenager, and she has been a huge influence on this career path.
What's your favourite Pilates pose? I love a glute bridge, done either on the reformer or mat. I think it's an approachable exercise for a lot of people and so many different props can be added to it. And then a close second is Tree (or Climb A Tree) because it feels so grand!
What's your favourite thing about teaching at Scout Pilates? The community of clients and members are the friendliest and most pleasant I’ve taught, which leaves me feeling as good as they feel after class.
Enough Pilates chat, what in your life gives you the most energy? In no order; dancing, acting, collaborating with insanely creative minds, a long bushwalk, fresh snow and a lift pass, cooking Italian food with my partner, watching a wicked circus show, hugs from family, and those silent fits of laughter with my best friend.
Tell us your favourite place to eat in the inner west and what you order there? Bella Brutta - the Clam pizza. I salivate just thinking about it.
What advice would you give to your 15-year-old self? Transcribe your Nonna’s recipes now.
Last great book that you read? I just finished The Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff, and I want to read it again already; it was punchy, and funny but covered incredibly dark themes and the power of female friendship. I'm also in the middle of the Bloodsworn saga by John Gwynne and I'd strongly recommend this to anyone who enjoys intense, gruesome action scenes and an epic fantasy story.
If you could travel ANYWHERE tomorrow, where would you go? Somewhere along the Okavango Delta in Botswana, looking for hippos and elephants. In reality, I will be there in a few months!
What goal are you hoping to achieve by the end of the year? It's more of a mindset that I'm focusing on, which is to lose this maddening sense of urgency in life. And also to keep following my curiosity!
