COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHT - Kandis from AH SALON
In this month’s Community Highlight we interviewed Kandis, from our neighbouring Hair & Beauty salon, AH SALON. Kandis is the beauty consultant and specialist, and provides transformative skin treatments. Her Beauty services are also part of our Member Perks program! If you haven’t tried her services yet, you’re missing out trust us! As you get to know more about Kandis, keep your eyes peeled for an exciting collaboration coming up soon at Scout.
Hi Kandis, can you share a little bit of your background and what brought you to your passion for skincare and selfcare? I have been in the industry for quite some time now. Starting with my Beauty Therapy Diploma in 2003, followed by a Bachelor of Health Science in 2006, and a Diploma of Nursing in 2014. My interest in skin and beauty started when I was a teenager. I was very self-conscious of the way my skin looked, constantly had breakouts, and post inflammatory scarring. I became obsessed with finding a solution! This blend of education shaped my career and approach to skincare and selfcare. I have a strong focus on skin health, education, and age prevention.
Can you tell us more about the Beauty Salon at AH Salon, what services you offer and what makes it different from other salons? We have an amazing culture here, embracing a wide range of high-quality services, consisting of advanced skin treatments to more traditional services like hydration facials and brow shaping. What sets us apart is our commitment to personalised care and ensuring a beautiful experience, every time.
What does a typical weekday (or week) look like for you at work? My days are quite varied. Between managing the salon, working with clients, and balancing family life with a sassy little toddler, no two days are the same! I could be consulting with clients, performing treatments as well as the day-to-day running’s of the salon. It’s a dynamic role that keeps me on my toes. I love that it combines my passion for beauty with my leadership and management responsibilities.
What do you most love about your job? The best part of my job is being able to make a difference with someone’s self-confidence. I love educating people on skin heath, treatments, and products so they can be confident in their own skin and themselves. I have started to see a shift with people moving away from Google and social media influencers for advice on what to do and what not to do when it comes to health and beauty. Investing in your skin is no different to investing in your hair, teeth, or general health! It’s all about educating my clients on daily habits and choices that make the biggest difference, you wouldn’t just go to the dentist twice a year and not brush your teeth every day!
What would you recommend to someone looking to get started with a skincare routine? You need a good foundation, the basics! Without that your skin will not be able to function effectively to benefit from actives or corrective products. Also, SPF is an absolute must, rain, hail, or shine. It’s the biggest protector from the environment and a key product in age management. I’m a big believer in it’s the smallest things you do each day which make the biggest difference!
What is your favourite Beauty offering at AH Salon, and why should we try it? One of my personal favourites is Cosmelan, its incredibly effective for treating pigmentation and gives such noticeable results. BioRePeel or Skin Needling is another must-try for its rejuvenating properties. Both treatments really help with the skin texture, tone, and radiance. Which makes them top choices for anyone looking for transformative results.
What are some of your favourite skincare products for everyday life / must-haves? I absolutely love Mesoestetic products for their quality and effectiveness. Obsessed with Charlottle Tilbury Unisex Healthy Glow for those no make-up days! I can’t go without a good SPF, sun protection is key for keeping skin healthy and youthful!
Any exciting projects coming up for AH Salon this year? Where to start…we have some exciting developments in the works! Looking at expanding our offerings and possibly bring in some cutting-edge technology which clients will love. I am also focused on growing the education side of things of the salon, working with the team to build knowledge and offer the best services possible as well as a memorabilia customer experience.
When you’re not working, what are you up to / how do you like to spend your free time? Apart from being a mum to a teenage boy and my little mini me. You’ll find me outdoors, at pilates or at the beach when I can. Love spending time with my friends and family as well enjoying a cheese board and a cheeky champagne with my fiancé. The end of this year is consisting of lots of wedding planning for our upcoming wedding in March 2025 and an exciting trip Sri Lanka immediately after for my close friends 40th birthday and a quick little detour on the way home for our honeymoon in the Maldives.
