SCOUT INSTRUCTOR SERIES - Meet Will!

If you’ve ever stepped into one of Will Cook’s Reformer classes at SCOUT St Peters, you know you’re in for a high-energy, music-driven, and seriously challenging session. Will’s classes are all about pushing limits, building strength, and having fun while doing it!

How long have you been teaching at SCOUT?

I've been teaching Reformer Pilates at SCOUT for about 6 months now. And prior to that I was a student at SCOUT for many years!

How would you describe your teaching style?

My teaching style, no matter what kind of class you come to, is pretty consistently challenging, but I'm all about really encouraging people to push themselves to their limit - safely of course! But I also love to curate the music, really create that vibe so that people leave the room feeling that they've had an amazing experience.

At the end of the day, if you're spending an hour with me, you're spending your time and your money, you might as well have a bit of fun while you're here!

What is your favourite thing about teaching?

My favourite thing about teaching is actually the thrill that I get from knowing that on a Sunday morning after teaching for four hours, I would have potentially taught up to 50 people how to move their body.

And I know that for some people, it's a real challenge to get to class regularly, so knowing that I've had a little bit of positive impact on their life for the week gives me such joy!

What is your favourite Pilates exercise?

My favorite Pilates exercise kind of chops and changes depending on the day. I'm a big fan of a curtsy lunge on a yellow spring, those that know me well know I love that.

But over time I've also learned to love prone work, particularly lying down on the box facing towards the back of the machine. I used to hate it, but I've progressively become more accustomed to it and have definitely built it into my flows here at Scout where I can. I really find it to be an anti-iPhone, anti “9m-to-5pm at a desk” movement, so it's something that people really benefit from!

What in life gives you the most energy?

So many things in life give me energy. I think my personal reformer practice is something that I still really hold dear to my heart. I try and get on the machine as much as possible.

I'm also a big traveller and lover of eating out. I think we live in such an amazing country, where we are the food bowl of the world. So I really do enjoy getting out there and tasting a few delicious things when I can!

What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting Pilates?

My one piece advice would be: “Just give it a go! You never know until you try!”
