SCOUT INSTRUCTOR SERIES - Meet Chelsey

CHELSEY CAMERON

Age: 41

Star sign: Pisces

How long have you been teaching Pilates? For 12 years.

How did you first get into Pilates?  I found Pilates through a back injury, but stayed after it became an obsession! After experiencing firsthand how beneficial Pilates could be for not just rehabilitation but also my overall mental and physical health, I wasn't content to just practice, I needed to share it with the world! I am so happy I made that decision and career change over a decade ago as I have found my 'people' in this community and I continue to love the practice as much as I did on my first day!

What is your favourite Pilates position?  To teach, it has to be the lunge & scooter combo (hello spicy!) but to practice on my own body, it's a mermaid/swan combo for sure. Love that juicy rotation coupled with extension!!

What's your favourite thing about teaching at Scout Pilates? Without a doubt it's the community. Hands down this group of teachers, staff and the exceptional clients is one of the most nurturing, supportive and inclusive I have ever worked for. These walls are home to so many unique, nurturing and creative individuals that it is an absolute joy to come to work each day.

Enough Pilates chat, what in your life gives you the most energy? My family, and that includes my 'friends' family. It is so important to me to spend time with the people in the world who I love most to provide me with much needed perspective from time to time. Also, my dog Ruby is my whole world! She brings so much joy to my life and reminds me the importance of playtime (every day!!).

Tell us your favourite place to eat in the inner west and what you order there? My current go to is East Village Hotel in Balmain. Do yourself a favour and grab a parma and a beer, sit in their gorgeous courtyard and enjoy the fairylights of an evening! Perfection.

What advice would you give to your 15-year-old self? Your intuition will always guide you exactly where you need to go and be - trust it. Advice I try to live by even now...

Last great book that you read? Not a book, but I recently watched a very cool series called 'Camden' on Disney +. It chronicles the stories of some of the most iconic music legends and how their experience in Camden, London shaped their careers. Given I used to live in London it was such a fun watch, especially to see some of the old pubs and bars that I went to back in the day!

If you could travel ANYWHERE tomorrow, where would you go? Mexico. Stunning beaches, delicious food, exciting people and culture. And... Margs... need I say more??!!

What goal are you hoping to achieve by the end of the year? On a professional level, I'm looking forward to creating some exciting content in the Pilates teacher training world. On a personal level, it's been a priority to carve out more time with my friends and family and really give myself some much needed balance.
