SCOUT PROFILE SERIES - Caitlin

For this second edition of our Scout Profile Series, meet Caitlin! When not at Scout or at work, Caitlin loves to wander in the inner west meeting friends at cafés and pubs or getting her nature fix in one of the beautiful parks.

CAITLIN XUGLASSOP

Name: Caitlin

Age: 28 this year

Star sign: A true blue Cancer!

Tell us about your day job: I work at the University of Sydney in the Future Students department, working on email marketing strategies

Favourite thing to do when you’re not doing your day job? I would say I accidentally spend most of my free time in the inner west. Coming to Scout, reading in one of the beautiful parks or cafes, meeting friends at pubs or breweries, record shopping, vintage shopping, or just walking around listening to a good podcast!

How long have you been coming to Scout? I started coming to Scout in lockdown 2021 on the recommendation of my good friend and long time Scout evangelist Caroline. I started at a pilates in the park session, and was instantly hooked. I waited for Scout to reopen and have been coming religiously ever since!

What keeps you coming back? The instructors! I feel like Scout allows teachers to have their personality shine through in class, and it makes me feel like I'm coming to see friends and a community, instead of just a work out. I always leave a Scout class smiling.

Favourite class and why? Without fail every week I get to Mandi's 6pm Tuesday class. I used to hate working out after work but Mandi's energy is so infectious I feel like she sets me up for a good week every week!

avourite pilates position? The flying splits on the reformer. I love how it works the whole body and how dynamic it is!

Enough Pilates chat, what in your life gives you the most energy?

I always feel most energetic after spending time in nature. I would love to say I get out of the city more often, but I mostly get my nature kick from parks and beaches. Nothing beats lying on a Turkish towel on soft grass or sand in the sun!

Tell us your favourite place to eat or drink in the Inner West and what you order when you’re there. Even with all the amazing restaurants and cafes in Newtown, I think the most comforting and reliable establishment is Pastizzi Cafe. I always order a (criminally underrated) mushy pea pastizzi to start, and the ricotta gnocchi for main!

hat advice would you give to your 15-year-old self? Start practicing yoga and pilates now! 15 year old me would have benefitted from the active self care, and 28 year old me would appreciate the flexibility and strength.

What was the last text message you received? A text from my partner confirming whether we will be getting choc tops at the cinemas tonight (yes, we will!)

If you could travel ANYWHERE tomorrow where would you go? To China to see my grandparents! As borders start opening up I'm crossing my fingers China's will soon too.

What goal do you want to achieve by the end of the year? To go overseas at least twice. Given the last two years this feels like a much needed goal.
