SCOUT INSTRUCTOR SERIES - Halimi
Meet Halimi! This Reformer queen discovered Pilates after moving to Australia and got addicted by the wonders that the practice did (and keeps doing) to her back - that's also why she's pretty obsessed with any form of spinal movement on the Reformer.

How long have you been teaching Pilates? Just over 2 years now.
How did you first get into Pilates? I first got into Pilates when I moved to Australia. It did wonders for my back and my mental/physical health. That 50-minute was just for me and my movement, and I always felt amazing after. So it really quickly went from a daily routine to ritual - I loved it. I’d been thinking about teaching for quite a while, so when the first lockdown came around I decided to lean into it and finally get my certification. I’m so glad I did.
What's your favourite Pilates pose? Short spine and semi-circle. My back definitely cops it sitting at a desk all day at my 9-to-5, so any movements of the spine are my favourite.
What's your favourite thing about teaching at Scout Pilates? I love that Scout is an inclusive space that lets you make movement your own. The community – both teachers and clients – is so vibrant and beautiful. Every time I’m there it gives my day such a positive boost.
Enough Pilates chat, what in your life gives you the most energy? I always feel so energised after a swim in the ocean or any time I make for movement. And of course, I’m always happiest when I’m around my closest mates having a laugh. Nothing better.
Tell us your favourite place to eat in the inner west and what you order there? Ah, I really can’t decide! But I do love a martini from Bar Planet, and I won’t ever turn down a takeaway nduja pizza from Westwood!
What advice would you give to your 15-year-old self? Stress less. Know what’s worth your time, energy and emotion.
Last great book that you read? The White Album by Joan Didion.
If you could travel ANYWHERE tomorrow, where would you go? I’ve been so keen to do a big Europe trip for years now. Hoping to tick this off the list next year!
What goal do you want to achieve by the end of the year? This last year was a lot of change and a lot of overworking – I definitely burnt myself out a bit. Haha. So I’m honestly now just prioritising the things that bring me joy and alleviating any chaotic energy from my life. Planning a few trips, and hopefully making it back home to Chicago after over 3 years!
