How long have you been teaching Pilates? I’ve been practicing reformer for 2 years & started teaching in March 2022
How did you first get into Pilates? Once I moved into the city I started looking into Reformer Pilates because everyone was raving on about it and thought I’d give it a shot. This started my obsession & overtime quickly transpired into a passion of mine. I could see results in my body & I could feel myself building up the strength I never had and this left me wanting more. Before I started training to teach I was in Hospitality Management for over 12 years. High-stress environment, no work-life balance & no time for myself which mentally & physically was something I couldn’t sustain. I reached past the point of burnout and said to myself “enough is enough Jac”.
The studio I was training at was offering Reformer teacher training so I went with my gut instinct & signed up straight away. After Finishing my training, I quit my hospitality job and threw myself in the deep end to teach Reformer full-time. Since that day I have never looked back. Pilates completely changed my life around and have never been happier!
What's your favourite Pilates pose? Anyone that has taken my classes would know I love to teach any unilateral exercises. We all have a weak side and this helps to isolate and correct muscle imbalances, improves balance, utilizes core muscle imbalances & aids in injury prevention. It’s a nice way to come into your body and really feel the difference from one side to another.
What's your favourite thing about teaching at Scout Pilates? Since starting at scout I have noticed the beautiful community it has built up over the years. All the clients, staff & management are lovely people and as soon as you step through the doors it just feels like home. It’s nice to walk into a workplace and feel fully supported by your peers. Also, the studio fit out is amazing =) LOVE IT!!
Enough Pilates chat, what in your life gives you the most energy? I definitely get energy from teaching and seeing clients grow & get stronger over time. Outside of work I love my own quiet time with myself, spending time with my close friends when I’m off & going for a swim at the beach or sitting in a park soaking up the sun. I love metal & punk rock music so love a cheeky gigs around town when I can.
Tell us your favourite place to eat in the inner west and what you order there? I should be souvlaki in Newtown. It’s a cute little vegan eatery (I’m not vegan but it’s too good) on King St that serves delicious food & the vegan meats are sooooo yummy! They also have the BEST cheesecakes in town (no joke, check it out!). I usually get the chicken Caesar salad with a side of fries (because I love fried foods haha). Definitely a must-try!
What advice would you give to your 15-year-old self? Listen to your intuition. Trust and believe in yourself & the process! Know your worth & protect your energy. YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK!!!
Last great book that you read? The Subtle art of not giving a f*ck – Mark Manson. Banger of a read.
If you could travel ANYWHERE tomorrow, where would you go? BALI – Hopefully June 2023 *fingers crossed*
What goal are you proud to have achieved this year? Finding my dream job & building up my brand @pilayesbyjaclyn, looking after my well-being & building healthy relationships with myself & others.
