SCOUT PROFILE SERIES - Meet Will
WILL COOK
Age : 24
Star sign: Aries (BIG irrational energy right here)
Tell us about your day job! I am very fortunate to be the PR Coordinator at Tourism Australia. In a nutshell, this means that I help sell the story and tourism experiences that make Australia truly unreal to the rest of the world. This role is a little bit of everything, from stakeholder management, to traveling with journalist and celebs from across to the globe to good old champagne PR. No two days are the same, and that's why I adore what I do. As part of my role, I work with an amazing team of travel friends who are all about supporting an industry that has had an incredibly rough trot, thanks to the pandemic.
Favourite thing to do when you’re not doing your day job? When I am not in a Circuit Pilates or yoga class, you will find me at a restaurant or cafe eating my way through a leisurely set menu with my closest mates.
How long have you been coming to Scout Pilates? My first class at Scout was through ClassPass at some point during the 2020/2021 malaise. But I made the switch permanently in May 2022 when I moved to the big bag world of Newtown.
What keeps you coming back? The diversity of the classes is a true balm for every mood I find myself in. I love waking up on a Saturday morning and kick-starting my week with a challenging Body Blaze as much as I adore uncoiling my 'desk body' at the end of a weeknight in an Essentials flow.
Favourite class and why? Nothing beats a 6AM Circuit on Wednesday with Vee. It is the perfect panacea for Hump Day and gets me vibing for the rest of the week!
Favourite pilates position? Any form of lunge! Any day!
Enough Pilates chat, what in your life gives you the most energy? Knowing that I don't know what is coming tomorrow! For so long I lived by the timetable, everything was diarised. The pandemic was a real circuit breaker for me. I learnt to love to go with the flow and not have to plan every moment. It gives me energy knowing that it could all change (for better or worse) in a moment.
Tell us your favourite place to eat or drink in the Inner West and what you order when you’re there? OMG! Now you are talking my language. Look, it wouldn't recommend it as a meal per-se, but Bar Planet on Enmore Road is possibly my favourite bar. Anywhere. And I have been to a lot of bars. I adore their martinis on spiced, on-the-house popcorn.
What advice would you give to your 15-year-old self? Chill out with your family more. Watch less Home & Away. Learn to speak French, you don't like German.
What was the last text message you received? My manager telling me to have a lovely weekend!
If you could travel ANYWHERE tomorrow where would you go? For me, there is no place like Australia. From the food in Adelaide to the rouge nature of Darwin to the untapped wonder that is Kakadu, I love Australia. I would kill to be back in Northeast Tassie right now in the Bay of Fires sipping on a Pinot and dipping in the pristine turquoise water. However, like anyone, I could do with an island in the Maldives too.
What goal do you want to achieve by the end of the year? A) To have spent as much time with the people I love as possible. B) To stop sleeping with my phone in my room!
