Yoga Rebranding

Scout started as a Pilates studio with a side offering of yoga classes to complement the Pilates focus. As Scout has grown the demand for a full yoga offering has increased which has led us to build out a full yoga offering (with more classes to come)! We are thrilled to be rebranding as Scout Pilates & Yoga (a mouthful but we know you all just call us 'Scout' anyway).

Our Yoga class styles

Slow Vinyasa class focuses on alignment and mindful transitions, and includes sun salutations, standing and floor postures, as well as introductions to inversions and guided relaxation. These classes allow a little extra time and space to focus on your breath and to refine postures. All bodies are welcome here!

Power Vinyasa class focuses on energetic and dynamic movement from pose to pose creating a sense of fluid physical motion and mindfulness - including sun salutations, a creative and dynamic sequence, inversions practice, and floor postures to cool down. When practiced regularly Power Vinyasa strengthens muscles, enhances mobility, and increases flexibility.

Yin class focuses on postures that are held passively between 2-5 minutes, sometimes using props to place gentle pressure on the joints, deeply nourish and stretch the fascia, and improve flexibility. Yin Yoga is suitable for all levels and helps to increase flexibility and regulate your body’s energy flow.

Restorative class involves holding very simple postures for an extended period of time (between 5-20 mins) and using props to aid in deep relaxation and rejuvenation. The ideal class for when you need a rest - the intention behind restorative is to nourish the parasympathetic nervous system and experience deep-seated rest. It is the perfect complement to a more dynamic yoga practice or lifestyle.

Hot Stone Therapy + Yin yoga class is like a Yin class, but a little extra! Melt tension as the warmth of volcanic stones provide a soothing sensation to your poses to both bring mindfulness and release.  You should leave this class feeling nurtured, restored and blissful!

Expecting a bub? We've got Prenatal Yoga back on the timetable too on Tuesdays, and for our Mums & Cubs group, a Monday morning session designed to ease anxiety, build self compassion, and foster connection between mum and baby.

Our Yoga Teachers - meet the team!

Grace always offers modifications, and will welcome you to your practice with a big smile.

Mandi's yoga classes are designed to be experienced by everyone, regardless of age or physical ability. Through the practice of yoga, she hopes that students are empowered with the tools necessary to thrive, find joy and realize their full human potential.

Benefits of Yoga (and why it’s a great complement to Pilates!)

Just like salt and pepper, Yoga and Pilates support and complement each other beautifully.

Yoga (meaning to ‘yoke’ or join together) is an ancient practice that aims at bringing the mind, breath, and body together - it is well known to reduce stress and improve our overall happiness and well-being. Through mindful and energetic movement, long-held stretches, and breathwork a Yoga class acts as a form of meditation and encourages practitioners to slow down, take a pause from a busy lifestyle and reconnect back with themselves.

If you have a strong and regular Pilates practice, adding some Yoga classes to your routine will allow you to stretch and lengthen your muscles, reducing feelings of soreness and of course, Yoga will also bring that element of calm and soothing to the nervous system. On the other hand, the strength and core stability worked in Pilates will allow you to explore more advanced yoga poses such as inversions and arm balances.

By practicing both Yoga and Pilates regularly, you open up your body to much more variety, creating positive changes to both body and mind. So, how about letting go of the idea that you have to choose between Pilates and Yoga and instead, get the best of both worlds?!

Both our Yoga and Pilates classes at Scout are inclusive and suited to all levels. So give them all a try! We can’t wait to see you on the mat and the Reformer bed :)
