SCOUT INSTRUCTOR SERIES - Camille
Meet Camille! Our favourite French yogi, she has been teaching at Scout for more than we can remember. You most likely know her already if you’ve been attending our Slow Vinyasa or Yin classes.
We’ve taken the time to sit down with her to chat about all things yoga and more!
Name: Camille Jacquet
Age: 29
Star sign: Virgo
How long have you been teaching yoga? For the past 3 years (including 2 ½ years at Scout!).
How did you first get into yoga? I first got into yoga just 4 ½ years ago after I moved here in Sydney. I was trying to escape a stressful and toxic corporate job and looking for something that would allow me to get out of my mind and more into my body. I got hooked from my very first yoga class, which then led me to enroll in a Yoga Teacher Training to deepen my practice and bring this new sense of purpose to my life (and yes, I eventually left the corporate job!)
What's your favourite pose? Too hard to pick just one! I’ll say Half Moon Pose (Ardha Chandrasana) – it’s the perfect combo of strength and flexibility, and I find balancing poses playful and challenging as they require us to be focused and fully present, which is ultimately what yoga is all about.
What's your favourite thing about teaching at Scout? The amazing community without a doubt! And of course, the stunning space that we are all so lucky to practice in.
Enough Yoga chat, what in your life gives you the most energy? Spending time with my partner, friends and family – I am always so grateful for their support! A morning walk or swim at the beach, and sunbaking (If I were an animal, it would certainly be a lizard haha).
What advice would you give to your 15-year-old self? Believe in yourself! Don’t be afraid to do things differently and trust that it will turn out the way it was meant to be.
The last good book you read? It was ‘Find your Strength’ by Rachael Coopes (who happens to also be one of my Yoga Teachers). Such an inspiring and empowering read that covers most aspects of Yoga philosophy in an easy-to-digest format and very applicable to our daily lives.
What goal do you want to achieve by the end of the year? Holding a forearm balance (Pincha Mayurasana) without relying on the wall – I’ve been working on it for the past couple of months and it’s a journey to go over the fear of falling but I'm enjoying the process and the challenge!
