Meet Rubi! She’s the co-founder and manager of AH Salon in Newtown, an award-winning hair + beauty salon nestled in the heart of Newtown. From the physical form to the online experience A.H Shop Salon traverses between a timeless classic, discovered and bold while also celebrating the individual. We sat down with Rubi to find out what drove her to this passion, and get some insights about what AH Salon is all about!
Hi Rubi, can you share a little bit of your background and what brought you to this passion for hair & beauty?
As a young child, I was obsessed with going to the hair salon with mum or grandma I would sit and watch not only their hair transform but their overall energy transform. The whole salon atmosphere was a real vibe, I loved all the chatting and movement in the salon, I just loved everything about it. In fact, I became so obsessed, all I wanted to do was play with hair. Hair was just something that called to me naturally. I even did a pre-apprenticeship course whilst I was in year 10 as part of my year 10 work studies once I did that I knew I was well and truly on the right path.
Can you tell us more about the story of AH Salon and what makes you different from other hair + beauty salons?
As a collective team, we take pride in working with you to realise what hair or beauty regime is manageable and makes you feel amazing wherever you are or whatever you’re doing. Our award-winning team of professionals provides the same level of care and attention from the physical form to the online experience A.H Shop Salon traverses between a timeless classic, discovered, and bold while also celebrating the individual.
Any hair-style / beauty treatment that you specialize in and that makes AH Salon the absolute go-to place?
We specialize in so many areas, the talent in the salon is so amazingly diverse. We are fortunate enough to have various hair ambassadors all under the one roof. it’s basically a hair heaven.
What does a typical week at AH Salon look like?
A typical week at AH Salon is full of diversity and creativity, with no 2 weeks the same. Every guest that enters our space has their own unique style and personality and we absolutely love the diversity in our space.
What do you most love about your job and AH Salon?
The people! The ability to make others feel better. The human connection through communication and creativity.
What qualities would you say are required to be a great hair stylist & colourist?
Communication and commitment to your craft. Always wanting to learn more. More about the craft and more about reaching hair goals through clear communication.
What goal do you hope to achieve for AH Salon this year and/or any exciting things to look forward to this year?
For our salon to continue to evolve, our team to continue to connect with our clients, and for all of us inclusive of our clients to find their feet Post Covid. Newtown and our community are so much stronger then the challenges presented lately.
When you’re not at AH Salon, what are you up to / how do you like to spend your free time?
Spending time with my dogs! I love them so much and love going for walks whether it be the beach, the park, or simply our house yard.
